Lexus GS 350 Sports Sedan Defines Affordable Luxury

The Lexus GS 350 is a great luxury sports sedan that offers many of the same amenities as other more expensive vehicles in this category.  The GS 350 has no problem delivering prestige, comfort and performance.  The smooth, quiet ride coupled with many standard options makes this vehicle a real bang for the buck.

The body of the Lexus GS 350 is a work of luxurious art, which has long been synonymous with Lexus sedans. The long, downward-slanting hood gives this vehicle a slicing effect. The wide sweeping quarter panels that flow right into this vehicle’s short rear deck give the total body package a futuristic look that would lead you to believe you are ready for space travel.

The inside of the Lexus GS 350 exemplifies how this car manufacturer emphasizes their interior craftsmanship with high-quality leather upholstery accompanied by wood and aluminum trim. The interior features include push button start, 10-speaker audio system, dual climate control and 10-way power adjustable front seat with heated leather. The cabin is super quiet and seats five adults. Whether you’re driving on a neighborhood street or city highway, Lexus, once again, has made one of the most comfortable automobiles on the road today.

The model I drove had all-wheel drive (AWD), and I immediately noticed how the AWD enhanced the handling of the swift acceleration that came from its 303 hp, 3.5 liter V6 engine. When a serious driver drives a car that’s quick from a standstill like the Lexus GS 350, you are concerned about getting enough traction to hold it on the road. The AWD insures that you are getting the maximum grip from all four tires. The six-speed automatic transmission is geared just right, shifting smoothly through all gears.

Finally, I had the opportunity to test-drive the GS 350 on Memorial Day weekend, and I’d do the engineers at Lexus a disservice if I didn’t mention one option that I was thoroughly impressed with. This option is the Lexus Pre-Collision System (PCS) and Dynamic Radar Cruise control. Even when I didn’t see the state troopers lurking in hidden locations like gators in a swamp, the dynamic radar alerted me that they were in the area. At first, I thought that something was wrong with the car when it automatically began to brake, as if someone had pulled in front of me while the cruise was engaged. However, I quickly learned that this was the PCS safety device detecting someone in front of me moving slower than I was.

The Lexus GS 350 is a great car with a base price a little under $48,000. Like I said, it has a lot of bells and whistles that pricier models have in its class — too many to mention in one review, so go test-drive it yourself.
